Author Guidelines

Enseñanza de las Ciencias accepts proposals of papers in Spanish only, except by explicit invitation from the editors to submit a paper in English.

Works should be new and original and not have been published previously.

Persons who submit works for possible publication in Enseñanza de las Ciencias should verify beforehand that the text submited scrupulously meets the following guidelines:

  1. To submit articles to our journal you should go to the webpage http://ensciencias.uab.es/user/register and follow the instructions to register as an author with the journal. It is recommended to fill the ORCID iDs. For those authors who don’t have ORCID ID, can follow the link ORCID Registry. Once registered you should identify yourself at http://ensciencias.uab.es/login in order to upload articles online and to check the status of uploads.
  2. The text of all articles should be anonymous: all citations, acknowledgements, references and anything else that might allow for a direct or direct identification of the author should be deleted. The editorial team at Enseñanza de las Ciencias will check that texts comply with this requirement. Should the article be accepted for publication, the full version will be then submitted to the journal. You should make sure that you attach a version of the article without the names of the authors nor any information relating to the same. (institution they belong to, bibliographical references to the authors etc.)
  3. Articles should be written in Spanish although, exceptionally in case of invited articles, could be in English. They should have a maximum length of 54000 characters including spaces, but including tables, charts and appendices. The information referred to in points 4 and 7 is included in the maximum length. Must use Times New Roman (or equivalent), size 12 points and 1.5 line spacing in paragraphs.
  4. The article shall also include, in Spanish, a title (90 characters including spaces) an abstract (900 characters including spaces), and five keywords.
  5. We recommend the articles be written using a compatible text processor (Macintosh and PC). Articles shall be submitted in the following formats, Rich Text Format (rtf), OpenOffice Writer (odt) or Microsoft Word (doc or docx) via the journal website: http://revistes.uab.es/ensciencias. No other form of submission will be accepted, nor will we enter into correspondence regarding articles which are not submitted via our portal or in other formats.
  6. Non-text elements (tables, pictures, maps, graphs, illustrations, outlines, drawings, images, etc.) which form part of the work shall appear inserted in the corresponding place in the text. In addition they shall be submitted separately at the same time as the article is uploaded (point 4. “Uploading additional files”), as images embedded in the text are not valid for later publication. It is essential that they should be saved in the following formats, TIF, EPS or JPEG, and with a resolution of 300 ppp, 16 cm width and in original colour.
  7. All bibliographical references shall appear at the end of the article in alphabetical order by surname. Citations should be referenced following APA guidelines (6th edition), as in the examples given in this link.
All bibliographical references should correspond to information mentioned in the text.
  8. Submissions should indicate in which section of the journal the article is proposed for publication: Academic Research, History and Epistemology or Academic Innovation.
  9. Once a text that meets all formal requirements has been received, acknowledgement of receipt will be issued and the review process will begin. In case the initial review article does not comply with all the requirements, the author will be requested to send again the text with the changes required by email. The deadline for sending the text with the requested changes will be one month. In case of failure to comply with the deadline, the article will be dismissed and archived.
  10. In the first stage the editorial team will undertake a general review of the quality, and the suitability of the topic of the work, and may reject, without going on to an external review, those works whose quality is patently low, or which do not provide any contribution to the topic areas of the journal.
  11. Articles which pass this first filter will be assigned to an editor who will submit them to two external reviewers, specialists in the subject or line of research dealt with. In the event that there is discrepancy between the reviewers, or for any other motive, the editor may submit the text to a third reviewer.
  12. In the light of the reviewers’ reports the editor may take one of the following decisions, of which the author will be informed:
    • Submission accepted: publishable as is, or with slight modifications.
    • Publishable with modifications: in this event publication will be dependent on the author undertaking all the changes required by the editors. The term in which to undertake such changes shall be three months and a brief explanation of the changes introduced and how the text has been adapted to the editors’ requirements should be attached. Exceeded this period, the article will be archived as “not publishable”.
    • Re-review: not publishable, but with the possibility of rewriting and resubmitting the work. In this case resubmission of the work shall not imply any guarantee of publication, but rather that the review process will begin again from stage one. Will be applied a three months deadline to send a new version, including a brief explanation of the changes introduced and how the text has been adapted to the editor requirements. Exceeded this period, the article will be archived as “not publishable”.
    • Not publishable
  13. In the event that the work should be accepted for publication, a summary of no more than 4100 characters including spaces in English should be submitted. In the event that the article is written in English the summary should be in Spanish.
  14. Proofs will be sent to the authors to be checked in the term indicted by the journal.
