ID indicators
Suggestions for indicators specific to Didactical Innovation
1. Relevance of the work for the Didactic of Science/Mathematics
• Significance of the proposal (novelty, relevance for science/mathematics teaching, planning...).
• Justification of its interest.
• Practical orientation (e.g., it has been implemented with the participation of teachers at the school of the research context).
• (If applicable) Collaborative dimension, i.e. involving educators and eventually the work is an output of the collaboration between educators and researchers in the specific field.
• (When is relevant) Investigative dimension, i.e. involving grounded premises, experimental research designs either classroom-based or not, critical analyses, emerging newer problems, as well as emerging directions for action.
2. Theoretical foundation and literature review
• The proposal draws on theory with consideration of conclusions, results and didactical implications in general, from prior related didactical research.
• The bibliographic references are appropriate with an updated selection of studies and pertinent citation to research which is referential to the current state of the art regarding the problem stated in the proposal.
• The identification of prior related research published in Enseñanza de las Ciencias.
3. Methods and results
• Coherence between the design and the implementation of the proposal.
• Description of the context, including where, how and with whom issues, as well asthe factors and control issues and the classroom work dynamics.
• Procedure of data collection with attention to temporarily ordered data possibly through tables and charts to facilitate a quick global view of data.
• Explanation of result, including what, how and why issues concerning methods design, application and validation in the corresponding scientific community. It is compulsory to provide results of the implementation.
4. Interpretations and conclusions
• The conclusions are supported consistently by results set out clearly.
• The practical contributions of the proposal focus on what is brought up to knowledge about teaching and learning at present, either in terms of trasnference, learning and teaching improvement, coherence with prior work, dynamics, attitudes, or teacher education.
• The limitations may point to some particularities of the proposal, either in terms of student and teacher feature, or issues that have been intentionally omitted.
• The reference to future work may indicate the lines of practical interest which could contribute to the consolidation, completion and improvement of the undertaken proposal.
5. Writing
• The written version of the proposal is clearly organised, grammatically correct and adapted to the journal standards.
• The title is informative in line with the summary and the selection of keywords.
• The structure of the text coherently addresses the approach to research, the strategic objectives, the the innovation along with the methods, rsults and conclusions.
• The word extension is adjusted to the journal rules.
Writing the report
It is recommended a demanding analysis and evaluation of the original papers while, at the same time and if possible, a constructive guidance for improvement.
The evaluation must be accompanied by a one or two-page written report with the following claims:
A. Recommendation in relation to publication:
• Publishable without modifications.
• Publishable with minor modifications.
• Only publishable after substantial modifications.
• Rejection for lack of adequacy to the journal.
B. Justification of the report. The evaluation must be written so that it can be sent directly to authors, specifying the reasons of the final recommendation and blinding the reviewer name.
Some reference should be made to the suggested indicators above or to alternative criteria which are considered pertinent, eventually with ideas and references for improvement.
The report submission is to be completed within one month (it is important not to exceed this timeline) through the journal platform (ensciencias.uab.es).
