An Approach to Mathematics for 16-18 Year-Old Students. What Are They Expected to Learn?
Abstract
In this paper, we explore the way in which metaconcepts such as defining, proving and modeling are presented in school texts, considering these textbooks as a context for «seeing» the meanings that are somehow going influence what students learn. Firstly, we focus on creating a common framework that considers the variables which make it possible to characterize those metaconcepts. Secondly, we will present some results including the importance of the acquisition of basic vocabulary, the relative importance of proving, and the little importance of modeling, which is almost always tied to the resolution of applied problems. Keywords
