Abstract

Following a historical review of the evolution of the concept of chemical equilibrium, three historical models have been identified, and their pedagogical implications have been discussed. The historical study contributes to an understanding of certain aspects of the nature of science and furnishes elements for the design of didactic sequences for the teaching of this subject. Furthermore, parallels are considered between the historical evolution of the concept of chemical equilibrium and the construction of this concept on the part of students.
